The Destiny 2 Faction Rally event allows players to pledge their loyalty to a particular group, earn some tokens, and bag themselves some new loot. Bungie has already held one Faction Rally but when the second one begins it will offer some big changes to the way things work.
In an update published today, Bungie confirms that Destiny 2 players will be able to take part in Faction Rally again from November 7 until November 13. The game’s senior designer Tim Williams explains that for this second Faction Rally event the development team has made big changes to the token rewards.
Now, normal Strikes will reward between 5 and 9 Faction Rally tokens (an increase from 3 to 7), while Nightfall Strikes will reward between 10 and 18 tokens for the first completion per character. The number of tokens rewarded for completing Heroic Public Events has been decreased to 5 (originally 8).
Moreover, although destroying enemy resources in Lost Sectors will still count towards a daily milestone, opening the Lost Sector Chest will be the only way to earn token drops now. This means that farming tokens by destroying supply drops is gone, but it does allow players to earn tokens as a fireteam. Previously, it was only the player that destroyed the supply drop who earned a token, which discouraged grinding Faction Rally tokens with friends. Williams says this has been done in response to fan feedback, as players “disliked the fact that they couldn’t enjoy them with a fireteam,” but it’s certainly a nerf to the fast farming method as well.
While some fans have expressed concern with the way that the Destiny 2 token system works, this should at least make participating in Faction Rally feel worth it. Bungie has also announced new weapons for the Faction Rally packages, and these seem to be the weapons that leaked last month. Hopefully, this will make the grind for tokens feel less like a grind and more like a chance to get something good.
However, the return of Faction Rally does not totally fix the problems with the Destiny 2 end-game experience, as fans continue to complain that there is no sense of progression. Some players argue that completing the game’s activities and doing things like Faction Rally are only beneficial to a point.
The chance to get different loot is fantastic but as players have to wait until next month for Power level cap to increase, unlocking this loot does not make their character any more powerful. Bungie may not be able to fix that immediately and fans who have already hit the progression ceiling will have to wait a little longer, but for others, the quality of life changes to Faction Rally will be more than welcome.
Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
