Destiny 2 Leviathan Raid Details Leak

Bungie may have said it will not reveal anything about Destiny 2’s upcoming Leviathan raid but that hasn’t stopped some leaks from making their way online. The latest offers some substantial details about the endgame experience, and paints a pretty compelling picture.

Of course, it goes without saying, but the following information will contain potential SPOILERS for the Leviathan raid in Destiny 2. Obviously, we don’t know if these details are legitimate, but it’s better to be safe than sorry if you plan on going into the raid completely blind.

According to the Destiny 2 raid leak, prior speculation about the endgame experience taking place on a giant ship is true. However, the Leviathan isn’t just a ship that’s a “world eater,” but is also a living creature.

But while the bulk of the experience will take place on the Leviathan, the leaker claims that the raid actually starts on Earth. Apparently the 6-player fireteam will need to complete some objectives before eventually heading up into the Leviathan for the main encounter. It’s unclear how much of the raid time will be spent on Earth, but it sounds a little like King’s Fall, which had a small sequence on the Dreadnought before truly beginning.

Another section of the raid will apparently have the fireteam fighting off enemies in a horde-based encounter. Destiny has dabbled with these before in the Prison of Elders and the Archon’s Forge, but never in the context of a raid. It could be interesting.

The biggest reveal about the raid, though, is that it will feature an escape sequence where players get to fly their ships. The leak likens the section to Indiana Jones, with players trying to flee from an exploding portion of the Leviathan. Apparently, a raid boss is not happy with being defeated and would rather sacrifice himself and a section of the Leviathan than let the Guardians continue.

Storytelling is also apparently a big portion of the raid, complete with cinematics. The campaign was served very well by cutscenes that fleshed out the story, and it sounds as though the raid will be following suit. Moreover, it actually seems like the raid will have a complete story to it, beyond the basic setup of defeating a number of bosses.

With only one raid available for at least the first few months of the game, Bungie needs to pull out all the stops and deliver a memorable experience that players want to repeat. If these details about the Leviathan raid are true then it sounds like Destiny 2 players are in for a real treat on Wednesday.

Destiny 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release planned for October 24th.
