Destiny 2 Releases Screenshots of PS4-Exclusive Retribution PvP Map

Destiny 2 has made a big splash at E3 2017 so far, from the reveal of a trailer focused on primary villain Ghaul through to the confirmation of a move of the game’s console release date to September 6. Now, Bungie has been able to share something else about the title – screenshots of a PlayStation 4 exclusive PvP map.

The Destiny 2 map in question, which is known by the name of Retribution, is available for the game’s PvP Crucible. Xbox One and PC users will be unable to access this map at all, as it is currently sitting exclusively with those playing the game on PS4. So, Sony gamers can get themselves a look at what to expect by checking out the screenshots below.

This is not the only exclusive piece of content that PS4 users will get from Destiny 2, either, as Sony console owners will also be on the receiving end of some exclusive weapons and armour, a ship, and a strike known as Lake of Shadows. It continues the long relationship between Activision and Sony when it comes to Destiny content; the original game and subsequent expansions had many exclusive and timed exclusive deals in place.

Unfortunately, this PS4 exclusive map and the PS4 exclusive items will be unlikely to make Phil Spencer happy any time soon. The Xbox chief spoke about the subject of console-exclusive content in an interview yesterday, and stated that exclusive items are bad for the industry as a whole. This PS4 exclusive map seems to be exactly the kind of thing that Spencer is unhappy about.

Indeed, it seems clear that Activision and Sony are certainly forming a strong partnership over Destiny 2, with a number of decisions seeming to fall in Sony’s favor. For one thing, the Destiny 2 early access beta will be arriving for PS4 one day earlier than the Xbox One version, while perhaps more concerning for Microsoft is the fact that the Xbox One X version of the game will not be running at a higher frame rate than the other versions, with Destiny 2 remaining at 30 FPS on Xbox One X.

That said, PlayStation fans will no doubt be happy if the content offered up is of a good enough quality to improve the overall game experience. Stay tuned for further Destiny 2 news on the horizon.
