Extended gameplay footage of Friday the 13th: The Game releases, showing off the game’s asymmetric multiplayer gameplay as camp counselors try to survive against Jason.

Originally slated for a release this past October, Friday the 13th: The Game was pushed into 2017 so that developers Gun Media could implement a single player mode. Gun Media has yet to give fans a thorough look at the single player, but in the meantime, it has shown off more of the game’s asymmetric multiplayer gameplay to tide them over until the solo story is ready to be shown off to the masses.

The new gameplay footage of Friday the 13th: The Game sees players work together to try to survive against Jason Voorhees, the invincible monster that has terrorized unlucky teenagers for decades. As seen in the extended gameplay footage, it seems like communication will be important if players hope to survive, as they are left to their own devices in a rather large map called Higgins Haven. By communicating, they are able to locate each other, group up, and start scavenging for supplies to help them fight off Jason.

Players are given vague objectives to pursue that they can complete in a variety of ways. For the most part, these objectives will be completed by locating necessary items like car keys, which can be used to escape the map in a car. Players can also collect an assortment of weapons that can be used to temporarily stop Jason’s pursuit of them.

Those that watch the footage will notice it is possible to abandon the other survivors and leave them to die at Jason’s hands. We see at the end of the footage that one of the survivors winds up caught by Jason, and the other people playing make the decision to abandon him instead of trying to free him from Jason’s grip. This potential to betray other survivors for one’s own benefit could add an interesting wrinkle to the asymmetric multiplayer dynamic.

Unfortunately, the new footage doesn’t really offer much in the way of showing off Jason’s execution kills, which the hockey mask-wearing murderer will use to slaughter camp counselors in creative ways. It does manage to cement Jason as a legitimate threat to the other players, though, as he is basically impervious to whatever they throw at him, and can kill counselors rather easily if he manages to get his hands on them.

Of course, the key to surviving in Friday the 13th: The Game is avoiding Jason at all costs, which we imagine will be a key component of surviving in the story campaign as well. Fans will have to keep waiting for another look at Friday the 13th: The Game‘s story, but hopefully this new footage of the game’s multiplayer mode is enough to whet their appetite until then.

Friday the 13th: The Game will be available in the first quarter of 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
