Richard Madden — best known for his role as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones — has signed on to the lead role for Strange New Things, a new television pilot that has been picked up by Amazon Studios.
According to TVLine, Amazon has ordered a pilot for the project, which is being considered for a 10-episode first season. Deadline announced the show, which has no relation to Netflix’s similarly-titled breakout show Stranger Things, earlier this year.
The pilot will be adapted from Michel Fabder’s 2014 novel The Book of Strange Things, which is about a devout priest named Peter, who leaves behind his wife when he is sent to a distant planet world. While acting as a missionary for the local alien population, he begins to receive letters from his wife, who describes chaotic and devastating events back at home, which shakes his faith in God and his mission.
Kevin Macdonald (The Eagle, 11.22.63) will direct the pilot, which will be written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Patriot’s Day). Production is expected to begin by the end of the year.
