San Diego Comic-Con has already been great for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, where Capcom unveiled four new characters, new maps, and held a panel that revealed details regarding the fighting game’s story. But that’s not all, because Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was also playable at the event.
Maximilion Dood, AKA the Online Warrior, uploaded some direct feed gameplay to his Youtube channel specifically including fights from the all new characters. There’s almost 30 minutes of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite action to peruse for those excited to play the upcoming fighting game.
The footage is split into two different videos, each about 15 minutes in length. All four of the new Comic-Con characters are included, with the first video featuring Spider-Man and Haggar prominently and the second including Frank West and Nemesis (as well as recently announced Gamora, too). There is some brief voice-over from Maximilion to start each video, who is suffering from some post-EVO 2017 sickness, but the bulk of the footage is pure gameplay with no commentary.
Also featured in the trailer is the newly announced “A.I.M.brella” stage, the hybrid of MODOK’s Advanced Ideas Mechanics organization and Resident Evil’s Umbrella Corp. All of Marvel vs. Capcom‘s maps will feature similarly hybrid-themed stages, a play on the clash between Marvel and Capcom‘s universes. Funnily enough, MODOK is featured front and center on the stage, toeing the line between teasing a future DLC character and mocking MODOK players from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and its Ultimate upgrade.
The footage also serves as a great resource for prospective Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite competitive players, as it shows the players testing out various skills for several characters. For example, in the Haggar video they test out Haggar’s ability to pull out a defensive steel barrel, seeing just what kind of hits it can block and how quickly Haggar can follow up with an attack. But for those less interested in the details, there’s also plenty of plain old visual splendor like each character’s super abilities.
With so much gameplay to watch, certain aspects of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite are already starting to stick out, some like a sore thumb. The audio in-game is just constant voice-lines from the characters, most obnoxiously specific. There was one sequence in particular where Gamora literally says “Hit Confirm” after getting a hit confirm, says “Laser” while shooting her laser,” and then shouts, “Spider-Man” as he comes in via character swap. That kind of audio torrent is pretty typical for the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise, but it stood out nevertheless.
To be fair, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite likely has other issues that are of a higher priority. For instance, Capcom’s mentioned they’re still working on updating Chun-Li’s face during the SDCC panel this weekend. Luckily the game itself seems to be coming together quite nicely.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is planned for release on September 19 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
