Tipster Twitter account may reveal first look at the HTC Nexus in the wild
Google’s latest Nexus handset has been spotted in the wild – and it’s not looking quite as swish as the Nexus 5X or 6P.
The news comes from a sneaky shot leaked online of somebody using the supposed handset in public. The photos were uploaded onto Twitter by a new account simply called “nexus”, which claims that the device is the 2016 HTC-made Nexus and “looks like a cross between the Nexus 4 & iPhone with glass and fingerprint scanner on the back”.
The account, which only has seven tweets to its name, went on to detail that there are two Nexus devices – one premium, as seen in the tweet, and one with a glossy plastic finish. The account also states that the plastic-backed device could just be an earlier prototype of the glass-backed version and may not actually come to market. Both devices apparently looked like they were smaller than the Nexus 6P, and the account claims that Android Police’s metallic-backed Nexus leak isn’t the final design that will come to market.
It’s hard to know how much stock to put in this, really. Sure, the account has photographic evidence to back up its claims, but Android Police has historically been pretty reliable, whereas this is just an egg account on Twitter.
If this is the final version of Google’s new Nexus, it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. LG’s Nexus 4 may have looked like an attractive phone back in 2012, but that glass-backed design with slightly chamfered edges looks quite dated for a 2016 flagship. Let’s hope this is nothing more than a terrible hoax.
