More Evidence Suggests The Last of Us 2 is Set in Seattle

Although Naughty Dog recently declared that The Last of Us: Part 2 has not yet entered full production, plenty of diehard fans awaiting the release of the sequel have been spending ample time doing detective work to determine what the next setting of the game will be. As it so happens, fans on the official subreddit dedicated to the title have now found even more compelling evidence that the developer potentially intends to use Seattle as a backdrop to the forthcoming followup.

As seen in the images below cobbled together from the handiwork and investigation skills of the Redditor known as Voldsby – with helpful assists from roganjosho, camkeys, and infamy7 – it turns out a spot seen in a piece of The Last of Us: Part 2 concept art is an actual parking garage that’s located on 1st Avenue in Seattle, Washington. In order for the user to confirm their suspicions that the artwork is using a real-life location from the city, they turned to Google Maps for further corroboration, and they verified that the garage is one used for parking next to the Millennium Tower.

The above images pile on additional proof to Voldsby’s original Seattle theory for The Last of Us: Part 2, as the Redditor scoured for real world signifiers and markers from game assets in order to place the sequel within the context of an actual city or location. In addition to the garage, the fan noticed that parking signs and pay sites indigenous to the Washington city were seen in the title’s reveal trailer from PlayStation Experience 2016.

Of course, while Seattle may be one stop on Joel and Ellie‘s tour of the United States in the sequel, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the city will serve as its only location. As it so happens, The Last of Us featured the two taking a trek across the entire country, with Joel leaving Texas to first meet Ellie in Massachusetts, leading the characters on a journey to Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Utah, and even Wyoming.

All things considered, there’s no telling what Naughty Dog has planned for The Last of Us: Part 2 when it comes to its story, much less its settings, for the last bit of concrete materials shown for the game came toward the tail end of last year. Even so, Voldsby and the aforementioned subreddit sleuths could be on to something with their research, with their dedication also affirming that The Last of Us: Part 2 is easily one of the PS4’s most highly anticipated exclusives.

The Last of Us: Part 2 is currently in the works for PlayStation 4.
