Leading up to the release of Warmind, the second expansion for Destiny 2, Bungie continues to tinker with their formula and reward the players that have stuck by them. Be it increased vault space or the return of bounties from the original Destiny, Bungie seems to be making an effort to give players what they have been asking for and while some of these features might still be a little while down the road and an interesting one will arrive alongside season 3, an emote wheel.
In a livestream today promoting the new expansion, Bungie showed off a lot of new features and content for players to enjoy come May, including the emote wheel. While showing fans the armor unique to the new Escalation Protocol horde mode, Bungie gave fans a peek at the new wheel and briefly explained how it will work.
As can be seen in the image above, the emote wheel works by locking to the directional pad on the controller. All players will have to do is go to the part of the menu where emotes are generally stored and click on the icon, taking them to the above screen. Then players simply have to choose the desired emote and bind it to one of the directional buttons. Once done players will have four different emote at the ready at all times. No word yet on how exactly the feature will operate for PC players using a mouse and keyboard.
Much like games like OverWatch or Fortnite, emotes and dances have become a big part of the Destiny experience. The use of popular real-life dances in-game like the Timely Dance, a representation of the Time-Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show, or the Overnight Dance, Destiny 2’s version of YMCA, has become an internet delight. Bungie and Activision even used the games emote functions to market the game overseas.
All of this is to say that Warmine and season 3 look to be steps in the right direction. After months of seemingly ignoring the player base, Bungie is trying to regain the trust of the audience and ideas like holding a summit for Destiny content creators is a good place to start. Now if Bungie could just figure out a delete multiple shaders button, Guardians would be set.
Destiny 2 and its Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Warmind launches May 8, 2018.
