Calumet Photographic has announced the first-ever National Photographic Survey in the UK. The questions have been carefully selected to address different areas of photography from video and drones, to mirrorless cameras and storage. Photographers who would like to be part of the first ever photographic survey on a national scale, can do so online via the Calumet website. Those who participate will also be automatically entered into a prize draw where a Fujifilm X-Pro2 is up for grabs, worth over £1,000.

First National Photographic Survey launched at the National Photography Show

The views of photographers are being sought as part of the first ever national poll of the industry, which was launched at The Photography Show (TPS).

The National Photographic Survey 2017 has been developed by Calumet Photographic in a bid to find answers to the questions photographers want to know about the industry, and to gain product and purchase insights.

The questions have been carefully selected to address different areas of photography from video and drones, to mirrorless cameras and storage. 

Photographers who would like to be part of the first ever photographic survey on a national scale, can do so online via the Calumet website (www.calphoto.co.uk).

Those who participate will also be automatically entered into a prize draw where a Fujifilm X-Pro2 is up for grabs, worth over £1,000.

Jon Warner, Managing Director of Calumet Photographic, which has its head office in Tilbrook, Milton Keynes, as well as an online shop and eight stores across the country, said: “We know customer service is hugely important to people who shop with us, but we wanted to use this survey to find out more about their journey, their industry views and approaches to their work.

“Photography is both a hobby and profession, which visually records the world around us for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

“This survey aims to shed some light into the latest trends and habits of the modern day photographer.”

Jonny Sullens, Head of Events at Future Plc., the team behind The Photography Show, said: “We’re pleased to lend our support to Calumet Photographic for the National Photographic Survey and hope that the findings play a part in assisting the wider industry, including The Photography Show, in developing products and services to address the needs of the UK photographer.”

A team of people from the industry, which included professional and amateur photographers, trade press editors as well as Calumet Photographic staff, helped write the questions.

Professional photographer and video storyteller Simeon Quarrie, who is a Canon Ambassador and founder of a company called Vivida, also helped compile the survey, said: “It was a huge honour to be asked to work on the nation’s first photography poll. We worked hard to create a broad spectrum of questions which we hope will encompass all sorts of photographers.”

“It will be fascinating to see the results and find out what other photographers out there have to say about the industry. I urge anyone with a camera to get involved and let us know their thoughts.”

Andrew Carpenter, who has been a professional freelance photographer for nearly 30 years, said: “This is a fantastic idea, a lot of photographers work alone, so taking part in something like this makes you remember you’re not on your own.

“The findings will also be important to those already working in the industry or wanting to start making money from their work, as it will offer up new ideas about how to promote yourself and showcase your pictures.”
