Star Wars Battlefront 2 Contains Single-Player Campaign, Content from ‘Multiple Eras’

Video game publisher Electronic Arts confirms Star Wars Battlefront contains a single-player campaign, as well as content from “multiple eras” in the film franchise.

As many fans of 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront will likely attest, one of the major drawbacks in DICE and Electronic Arts’ science fiction first-person shooter relates to the fact that the game didn’t launch with a single-player campaign. Thankfully, it seems as if the title’s publisher and developer have been keen to listen to the community, as Electronic Arts’ CEO Andrew Wilson has now confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 will include a single-player campaign.

This particular piece of information comes from an EA earnings call today (via GameSpot), with Wilson not only delighting Star Wars Battlefront fans with news that a campaign mode will be in the sequel, but also revealing that the followup will contain content from “multiple Star Wars eras.” While the EA CEO specifically mentioned The Force Awakens and Rogue One as films that have continued the series, he did not explicitly confirm that Battlefront 2 will actually feature characters and locations from these specific films.

Although many fans might be welcome to the possibility of Electronic Arts including content related to both The Force Awakens and Rogue One in Star Wars Battlefront 2, some could see the decision to be a conflict of interest, or, at the very least, unimaginative. As it happens, the 2015 version of Star Wars Battlefront already incorporated areas from both movies. Not too long ago, DICE and EA made the first-person shooter’s Rogue One: Scarif DLC available, while the developers created content referring to Star Wars: Episode VII much earlier by putting out downloadable materials called Battle of Jakku.

Also during Electronic Arts’ earnings call today, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is currently scheduled to come out sometime in holiday 2017, with DICE, Criterion Games, and Motive Studios developing. He went on to say that fans should expect Battlefront 2 to be much “bigger” than the 2015 release, as it supposedly features many more locations, as well as hero characters.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s good to see that DICE and Electronic Arts are addressing fans’ concerns regarding the refinements that need to be made to Star Wars Battlefront‘s forthcoming sequel. Of course, with Star Wars being one of the most enduring and recognizable intellectual properties in existence, the 2015 version went on to great success with sales surpassing more than 14 million units shipped, despite fans’ complaints of the game not offering a deep enough experience. With this being the case, it remains to be seen as to whether or not Star Wars fans will get everything they ask for, but a single-player campaign for Battlefront 2 is a solid start.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is scheduled to release sometime later this year in holiday 2017.
