When the Raid Lair Will Release for Curse of Osiris

Although Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris does not include an entirely new Raid for PvE players to experience, it will add a new component to the existing Leviathan raid. Dubbed a Raid Lair, this Leviathan add-on will reportedly be a shorter, but still-challenging endgame encounter complete with unique boss fights and loot to collect.

While Bungie typically likes to keep details about its Destiny endgame content a secret, Community Manager Deej was willing to reveal when the Raid Lair release window is. Destiny 2 players can expect to tackle the Eater of Worlds shortly after Curse of Osiris’ launch on December 5th.

Some might be concerned that Bungie is planning to release the Raid Lair too soon after Curse of Osiris’ launch, but Deej wanted to clarify that things will be different this time around. While the studio has tracked World’s First completions for all of the main raids in Destiny 1 and 2, it will not be doing so for this new Raid Lair.

Why exactly the World’s First tracking is not active for Eater of Worlds is unclear, but several factors could have played into the decision. For starters, Destiny 2 still has a few problematic exploits in the game that will undermine any potential World’s First completion. Players can still despawn enemies from encounters, and they can boost their Power Weapon ammo count using the Wardcliff Coil glitch. In fact, the last World’s First team that beat the Leviathan raid on Prestige difficulty openly used the Wardcliff glitch, and many called into question the legitimacy of the clan’s achievement.

So, rather than worry about evaluating whether or not a fireteam beat the Destiny 2 raid lair without cheats or exploits, Bungie is freeing itself from any backlash that might erupt should they crown the “wrong” fireteam. It also has to be somewhat demanding to keep track of all fireteams in a raid, and as has been shown by the recent blog post, Bungie has a lot more work to do to get Destiny 2 on-track.

Another factor that could have played a part in Bungie’s decision is the fact the Raid Lair is not that long or isn’t a true raid-like experience. Some may remember that Bungie didn’t track the World’s First completion for Prison of Elders since it wasn’t a raid. Perhaps Eater of Worlds offers something different to endgame players.

Whatever the case may be, there will be endgame content to enjoy soon after the launch of Curse of Osiris. And players won’t need to rush to the new level cap of 335 either because this Raid Lair’s recommended power level is only 300.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris releases December 5, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
